I’ve had these nice old Phonia headphones for ages (rescued from my father). I’ve always loved the way they looked, but they sounded terrible and had a worn cable. I also aquired a newish set of sony headphones which had damaged casing, So I’ve now combined two fairly useless sets of headphones into one great pair :-)

I just had to cut out the plastic mounting for the old speakers, and then insert most of the sony headphones into the massive enclosures of the phonias. They seem to sound even better than the sony headphones did to start with, perhaps because of the larger airspace behind, or maybe just because they sit more firmly on the ear. I’m sure they’ll look a bit odd paired with my ipod shuffle though !

I found a neat little phone on ebay, a Samsung P300 from around 6 months ago. unfortunately it was a little scratched up and in need of a little tlc.. Ah, time for some fun with small screwdrivers and sandpaper..

Then sand down the black casing, and carefully re-polish the brushed stainless steel face and backplate with wet & dry fine sandpaper. The spray the black casing with a fresh coat of satin black car paint.. and now we have an apparently new and shiny phone - click on for the result; (more…)
